How we teach Physical Education at Moore

At Moore Primary School, we recognise the importance of Physical Education to a child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. We aim to give them the necessary knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in their own mental and physical well-being. Our high quality, progressive curriculum (provided by Teach, Learn Grow PE) caters for all individuals and will inspire children to lead healthy, active lifestyles as well as encouraging them to develop a life-long love of physical activity.  It is designed to allow children to flourish and develop self-confidence, and we encourage our pupils to apply their PE curriculum learning, whether it be through individual, team or competitive based activities in or outside of school.

Implementation

Throughout the school, the children learn to develop skills in:

  • Gymnastics
  • Dance
  • Games – Football, hockey, netball, ultimate frisbee, cricket, tennis, rounders, dodgeball, circuits/fitness and basketball
  • Swimming
  • Athletics
  • Outdoor and adventurous activities

Each class engages in two hours of P.E. each week. This is supplemented by our after whole school sessions.

All children in Years 3-6 have a minimum of six one-hour swimming sessions each year to help them surpass the minimum standard of being able to swim 25 metres as well as to help them learn vital life-saving skills.

We work closely with the Sandymoor OA School and the local authority to provide opportunities for pupils of all ages to participate in sporting festivals and competitions.
