How we teach PSHE at Moore
We teach PSHE using the PSHE Association scheme. The scheme takes a thematic approach to primary PSHE education and covers these three core themes:
- Relationships
- Living in the Wider World
- Health and Wellbeing
These three areas are covered over the school year, with three units of work each term. This approach allows different year groups to work on similar themes at the same time, building a spiral programme year on year. Our PSHE programme of study enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. We use a range of teaching and learning styles to achieve this including; discussions, role play, games, investigations and problem-solving activities. We also encourage the children to take part in a range of practical activities that promote active citizenship, e.g charity fundraising, the planning of school special events, working with members of the community or involvement in an activity to help other individuals or groups less fortunate than themselves. We take a holistic approach to teaching PSHE and citizenship by incorporating the objectives into assemblies, RE, Science and our everyday classroom management.
